Council Meeting - August 20th 2019

  • Stan Yaro, the chairperson of the Narthex Renovation Committee, gave an update on the committee’s progress.

  • They are in Phase I—the Architectural Stage.  They researched 12 firms and selected three that will be asked to submit bids

  • The firms selected are: Bebee Architects from Venice, Carbon Design from Sarasota, and RoJo Architects from Tampa

  • In October and November, the committee will be holding informational meetings

  • Ed Crary gave the Financial review and indicated that August is typically the month with the lowest income.  We usually have an increase when the “Snowbirds” come back. 

  • Ed reported that the Reception Committee has been moved from the Outreach Committee to the Fellowship Committee which is a better fit.

  • Pastor recently attended an educational conference in Slovakia.  He accompanied members Bill and Samantha Schnittker who have been involved with the area with their former church. 

  • The Director of the School in Slovakia will be visiting us in January and will preach and we will also be having a Slovakian Dinner in the Fellowship Hall. 

  • The Florida/Bahamas Synod Council will hold their quarterly meeting here at Emmanuel on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 6:45-9:00pm.  They will begin with questions & answers and end with a Communion Service.  All are invited to attend.

  • The Mid-Gulf Conference (Carol Orenstein is the Conference Chair) Fall Gathering [NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE FLABASWO FALL GATHERING, HELD AT LAKE YALE!!] will be held here at Emmanuel from 8:15 am until noon on Saturday, October 12, 2019.   

  • The retreat topic is “Vitality:  Envisioning Fully Engaged and Effective Congregations”.

  • Keith Struble, Vice President of Council, has resigned and Member-at-large of the Council, Denise D’Eath will be the Acting Vice President until the next Annual Meeting.

  • The AV and Sound project for the Sanctuary should be completed on or before the end of the month.

  • September 8th will be Rally Day for the Sunday School.  We will celebrate with a picnic of hamburgers and hotdogs and all the trimmings after the 10 o’clock service...come join in the fun.

  • Also on September 8th will be our “God’s Work, Our Hands” project.
