Our New Vicar -- Livenson Lauvanus

He was born and raised in Haiti. His mother and sister have passed away, but he is still blessed with the love of his father and brother. He considers his father, a pastor and journalist, to be a primary inspiration for his own decision to become a pastor.

He has gone to school most of his life, beginning with primary school and continuing through high school, seminary and university. He said that because career options are limited in Haiti, students strive to do well in every subject so they will be prepared for any opportunity that presents itself. Vicar Lauvanus said he has “an amazing love” for philosophy, French literature and languages.

In fact, his mastery of English helped open the door to his calling as a pastor. When Lutheran missionaries visited and worked in Haiti, he was able to serve as their translator. Interacting with the missionaries and seeing how they were able to bring hope to people through the Gospel and their good works influenced his life greatly. His boyhood dream of becoming a medical doctor was replaced by his belief that God was calling him to pastoral ministry. “In reality, many people have contributed to my calling to the ministry and have influenced my life-they have believed in me and supported me, helping me to become what I am today.”

Welcoming Vicar Lauvanus into Emmanuel’s family provides an opportunity for all of us to minister to him as he begins his two-month ministry internship among us. Blessings of hospitality abound in the hearts of Emmanuel’s members, so let’s welcome him with an abundance of friendliness, warmth, helpfulness, kindness, generosity and prayers.

Our New Director of Youth and Family Ministries -- Kelly DeMaio

As a Venice native, I have seen a lot change in the Gulf Coast area over the last 30 years and I am no exception! I am married to a wonderful Christian man and have been blessed with a step-son, a beautiful daughter, and a son on the way! I love the community in which I live and some of my favorite things are playing golf, crocheting, swimming, and Disney! I am very fortunate to have traveled to some wonderful places, including Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, St Thomas, St Marteen, and Hawaii, and I have even putted a ball in at Pebble Beach! Life is good and I am VERY blessed!

I worked in the corporate world before having children and am very excited to be beginning a time of service to God. Being a member at Emmanuel has been a true joy in my life and I look forward to now working with all of you to further the Kingdom!
